The Style Statement Of The 1970s Jewelry Trend

The 1970s jewelry trend was dominated by several major trends.  The so-called retro look is still in vogue today and the hot favorites are the 1970s jewelry trend.  Most of the time, these pieces of jewelry made a strong style statement and were attention grabbing.

The 1970s jewelry trend was all about large pendants and statement jewelry.  The beaded multi-strand necklaces were also very popular and women were particularly fond of wearing many layers of these colorful beaded necklaces.  The multi-strand chain necklaces were also very popular.

The hippie culture included the rebellious ones who wore a lot of jewelry made out of natural materials which included stone, wood, shell and bone.  This was also a very popular trend during that phase.Their main emphasis was on authentic original designs made out of natural materials and all of them were handmade.  The global look was essentially brought about by the ethnic jewelry which was designed to go with the bohemian and hippie fashions.

However, during the late part of the 1970s the disco culture was very strong and the 1970s jewelry was strongly inspired by the disco culture.  These pieces of jewelry were essentially very flashy and had a lot of sparkle.  Women wore a lot of long dangling earrings in flashy designs.  The most popular color choices were cream, yellow, brown, burnt orange and olive green.

There are many ways to revive the 1970s jewelry trends.  For instance, the layering necklaces are a great way to make a style statement.  You could stick to a single metal or a single color and wear chains of different lengths to get the desired effect.  You could also get away with a pair of long dangling earrings as long as you keep the rest of the look simple.  Make sure you don’t wear any of the flashy necklaces or huge pendants along with it.

When you decide to go in for the retro look and wear the 1970s jewelry, ensure that you wear only a single piece of statement jewelry or you could end up ruining your looks.  The trend these days is to be smaller and simpler.  Flashy items are best avoided if you want to keep the looks clean.  Use just one or two vintage pieces of jewelry at a time.  Too many of them could ruin the looks.  You could find a lot of these pieces of jewelry in garage sales or thrift shops.
